• maybe twenty was too old to change yourself, to question yourself, ron thought, flicking through the tv channels of the new muggle tv in arthur and molly’s house, ignoring the channel that had just been interviewing a famous trans woman

• but being close to ginny had always been more than just because the two were the youngest, it felt like it was because they were similar in other ways too, but ron had never told anyone about those times they spent all day in ginny’s room in each others clothes and ron felt so relaxed in ginny’s skirts

• and the love of the beauxbaton girls, especially fleur with her beauty and flowing hair, had felt like a hint of jealousy too

• maybe it was time to actually think about those fleeting thoughts and dreams and the sense of longing that came with writing ‘mrs weasley’ when sending letters to one of the many mrs weasleys that there were

• a week later, ron sat down, a little nervously, at the computer and finally found the answers to the questions that had been around for much too long

• she told harry and hermione after a couple of days of complete confusion but also satisfaction, and after a hug and a grin from harry and an excited promise of support from hermione, she knew she was going in the right direction

• being lanky meant it was easier to be seen as feminine when wearing floaty material, but ron felt self concious about her height and apparated home almost a minute after arriving at her first lunch date being out as a woman

• she cursed how she’d always had a problem with nerves, but a week later, now in an outfit she’d chosen completely herself and partly borrowed from luna, ron sat through one of the best meals out with her friends that she’d had in a while

• her family was oddly unphased and supportive about her gender, though she supposed after all they’d been through, this was like catching a knarl after capturing a dragon

• hermione and harry never expected her personality to change and that was her favourite thing, how she could still joke around with harry and cuddle up to hermione in front of a film and neither expected her to suddenly act like a sterotypical woman and only talk about makeup and shopping

• ron merely shrugged when asked about her name time and time again, explaining how she liked it and didn’t feel the need to change something that was etched on many books about her heroic past, joking how she didn’t want any reason to be taken off the chocolate frog cards

• and when ginny turned up on ron’s doorstep, broom in hand and saying that they just didn’t care about gender any more and wanted to hang out with her where they could be whoever they wanted, ron mused again that she definitely did have a special bond with her youngest sibling
