hi! I hope that I am not bothering you. First, I would like to say that I love your shapeshifter and unleashed playlists, and that they are getting me through my revision, but I was just wondering, do you have any headcannons about what the colas and Clive do after the burning beach? I'm sorry if I'm bothering you.
answered:
hey friend!! you came to the right place i have so many post-unleashed headcanons
- mia ditches her grandfather after a couple of weeks, steals his wallet and runs off. while she’s trying to decide what to do with her life, she goes on a road trip around america with olu and spook. they sleep in dusty motels and deserted campsites and in the summer they just nap in the car under the stars and get coffees from old diners in the morning before heading off again. olu has no idea where they’re going and is frankly too scared to ask. spook loses his arrogance. mia learns to be tender again. for once, they get on just fine.
- clive campaigns. he’s realised that the people who run cola club won’t kick him out at this point, he knows too much, so he campaigns for the others’ behalf. he starts a school council and gets the internet, (heavily controlled and monitored, but a win’s a win) into the school building because it’s ridiculous for an educational institute to be without the resources internet can offer in this day and age. he fights to make sure that skype is included on the allowed programs list so people like darren can talk to their family. he starts an lgbt group and educates the school nurses on mental health issues and continues to be 100% there for dax and anyone else who needs him. he scares the officials and he knows it.
- luke gets most of his speech capacity back, but often prefers not to talk. he dyes his hair blonde again but cuts it differently and starts wearing his own style of clothes. he and gideon are closer than ever and are currently petitioning (along with several other colas) to be allowed to go to university.
- lisa and dax have a magnificent on-again-off-again relationship in the wake of TBB and everyone loves and despairs of them equally. dax is eventually forgiven for not telling everyone that owen was alive.
- darren learns that he deserves better, and after a few weeks of mourning, comes down to breakfast looking somehow new and ready to face the world. he makes friends with jacob and alex again, and with their combined love of music they start up a weekly jam session for any colas who want to play or learn an instrument. they’re also writing a school song. darren gets accepted back into the true eleven with open arms, makes better, closer friends, but politely refuses any offers to move in with anyone or to accept a new room-mate. the spare bed in his room is made up the way spook always left it. there’s a thin sheet of dust on the duvet and pillows.
- the summer after the last book, the government officials finally accept that they just can’t survey and control every single cola for the rest of their lives. they start relaxing the restrictions for the summer holidays and let the people who have turned 18 go where they want for summer, (within reason,) instead of making them stay at school or go home to their families and check in by phone every day. jacob and alex go to a bunch of music festivals across europe, then meet up with darren visiting his family in spain. dax and gideon and luke go to the hill and the coast where tregarren once stood. jenny and lisa go to new york for lisa’s 18th birthday. while jenny is asleep in their hotel room, lisa gets out a map and dowses for their other friend. lisa and mia finally reunite, sitting at an all-night diner and just talking for hours.
- it’s not a happy ending, not yet. but it’s a start.
